History

The Optimist Club of Wichita Falls, Texas, affiliated with Optimist International, has been serving the youth of the Wichita Falls community since 1924.  With the vast range of programs sponsored or supported by the Optimists, everyone who lives or visits the city is touched by Optimism.

Included in the nearly half a million dollars worth of projects the Optimists have been involved in since our beginning are the building of the Southeast and Northeast Boys’ and Girls’ Club, construction of football fields at the Central Boys’ and Girls’ Club and at Lake Wichita, scholarships for Midwestern State University, Annual Youth Appreciation Banquet, Tri-Star sport activities and sponsorship of various youth sports in the YMCA, YWCA, and Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs.  Also, assistance of the many area charities include Camp Fire, Children’s Home, Big Brothers / Big Sisters, North Texas Rehabilitation Center, Red Cross, Salvation Army, SAFB (Sheppard Air Force Base) Adopted Squadron Program, and numerous other local organizations.

Just as our motto says, the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls is “The Friend of Youth.”

With the continued support by the community of our annual Christmas tree sales and golf tournament, the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls is able to maintain the many programs that have enriched the lives of all Wichitans.
