Kaylynn Baswell was named the June 2011 Youth of the Month at the regular meeting of the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. She is the 11 year old daughter of Jarred & Lindsey Baswell and is now in the 6th grade at West Foundation Elementary School where she an A/B student and her favorite subject is Math. Kaylynn plans to attend MSU and hopes to serve her community as a fire fighter.
As a Southwest Club member for the last 5 years, Kaylynn has been very involved in all areas of the Club. Some of her favorite programs include Power hour, Club Tech, the National Photography Program, National Fine Arts Exhibit, and reading programs in the Learning Center. She also enjoys games room and gym activities and has even participated in the annual Elks Hoop Shoot and the Optimist Tri-Star Basketball competitions. As a Junior Staffer, Kaylynn volunteers an average of 12 hours per week and is a peer leader active in Smart Moves Programs to include the state funded TEXSYN program that teaches young people abstinence by learning different methods to say NO. As a member of the Torch Club, she is currently the Vice President and the Chair-person of the Birthday Committee. She has been involved more than 50 community service projects some of which include Cancer Awareness and Funding, Hug a Bear Foundation, and Kairos Prison Ministries just to name a few!
