On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, Lorenzo Boyd was awarded the honor of being the April 2011 Youth of the Month at the weekly Optimist Club meeting at Luby’s after being interviewed by Optimist member, Colby Schwartz. Lorenzo is the 11 year old son of Lorenzo Boyd Sr.& Dakki Mack.
Lorenzo is in the 5th grade and attends Fowler Elementary School where he is an A/B student – his favorite subject being Science. He is on the school’s Safety Patrol and is currently serving on the Student Council. Lorenzo wants to attend college at MSU and hopes to become an Engineer or Scientist. He became very interested in the MSU Engineering Department after a recent field trip as part of the Southwest Math & Science pilot program-group.
Lorenzo has been a Southwest Club member for the last 2 years and attends the Club not only to have fun but to learn as well! He loves to play basketball and football in the gym. while also participating in the photography and Arts and Crafts programs. Club Tech and games room tournaments (especially foosball!) are additional favorites. Other program participation includes: Power Hour Homework help, Junior Staff, Smart Moves, and the Torch Club. As a member of the Torch Club, he has been involved with over 24 community service projects!
